There are 4 types of electric batteries for bikes = lead-acid, NiCd, NiMH, and Li-ion. One of the fastest battery powered electric scooters
, will go 65 miles per hour. It is priced at around $11,000.00 and uses nickel metal hydride batteries, (the same one used in the Toyota Prius hybrid). The nickel metal hydride battery is lighter than a lead-acid battery and more durable. Lithium-ion batteries are even lighter than nickel metal hydride. They last longer and work better in temperatures below freezing.
The life span of a 12 volt rechargeable lead-acid battery is 300-500 charges. It takes from 2-8 hours to recharge a lead-acid battery that is completely drained. Lead-acid batteries do not like to be completely drained. Lithium-ion batteries have 3 to 4 times the life span of standard batteries. Lithium-ion batteries cost considerably more than lead-acid batteries.
A new type of lithium-ion battery is being tested which is cheaper and more powerful than existing batteries. It is based on lithium-ion iron-sulfide chemistry. Smart chargers are available for electric bike batteries. They will not over charge the battery and charge faster than regular chargers. Make sure battery chargers are on a non-flammable surface. Stay connected for new advancements in electric batteries.

It is my opinion that Toyota made the right decision by conducting the recall. This is for their customers’ safety, and the consumers who’ll be driving their automobiles for decades to come.
